Professor WONG, Louis Ngai Yuen

王毅远教授,男,1977年6月生,1999年毕业于香港大学获学士学位、2008年毕业于麻省理工大学获博士学位。主要从事岩石断裂力学,工程地质以及地下工程等方面的研究。

Associate Head (Research) and Professor, Department of Earth Sciences, Faculty of Science, HKU

Prof Louis Wong is a Professor and Associate Head (Research) in the Department of Earth Sciences at HKU. He is also the Director of MSc in Applied Geosciences. Holding a PhD from MIT and a BSc from HKU, he has amassed invaluable experience working on diverse slope engineering and underground construction projects across Hong Kong, Singapore, and the United States. Prof. Wong has authored over 130 journal articles in engineering geology, rock mechanics, and underground engineering. He belongs to the top 1% of researchers worldwide based on citations in his field. He was honored with the Richard Wolters' Prize by the International Association of Engineering Geology and the Environment. Prof. Wong is the Editor-in-Chief of the Bulletin of Engineering Geology and the Environment. Besides, he is a Technical Assessor of the Hong Kong Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (HOKLAS). His current research interest lies in developing predictive models for thermo-hydro-mechanical coupling processes in geomechanics, and leveraging AI technologies to enhance geological and geotechnical industry practices.
